We are delighted to celebrate the recent success of Oundelians studying German, whose achievements in prestigious national competitions have earned recognition from both the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge for their translation, writing and filmmaking skills.
At a time when the study of modern foreign languages is in decline nationally, particularly German, Oundelians continue to embrace the opportunities that language learning provides, demonstrating both intellectual curiosity and exceptional linguistic skill.
Among this year’s successes, Felix was awarded Runner-Up in the Cambridge University German Translation Competition 2026, a highly competitive contest that challenges pupils to demonstrate accuracy, creativity and flair in translation.
Congratulations also go to Alaric, who received the Individual Runner-Up Award in the Years 7–9 category of the Oxford German Olympiad 2026. The Olympiad celebrates excellence in German through a range of creative and academic challenges, attracting entries from schools across the UK and beyond.
Further recognition in the Oxford Olympiad was awarded to Freddie and Austin, who received commendations in the Year 9 Group Category, while Isla, Inge and Maddie were highly commended in the Year 10 Group Competition.
These achievements are particularly noteworthy given the scale and calibre of both competitions, which attract hundreds of entries each year. Success at this level reflects not only linguistic proficiency, but also creativity, perseverance and a willingness to engage deeply with another language and culture.
We warmly congratulate all of the pupils involved on their accomplishments.
