Joining Oundle at 11+

Each year, over fifty pupils join Oundle at 11+. Boarders enter The Berrystead, our junior boarding House, and day pupils enter Scott House, located adjacent to The Berrystead. Both Houses share beautiful grounds and enjoy their own dedicated pastoral space – providing a supportive foundation and seamless transition for our youngest pupils as they progress to the senior phase of their education. After two years, pupils who wish to board transfer to one of our senior boarding Houses and day pupils transfer to Laxton, our senior day House.

A small number of 12+ boarding places are normally available each year. Our Admissions team would be happy to discuss your options and explain the entry process for joining Oundle in our Second Form.

Laxton Junior School is our 4-11 day school and the vast majority of pupils progress from here to Oundle. The admissions process for LJS pupils is slightly different – please visit the LJS website to find out more.

The 11+ Admissions Journey

We appreciate that each family’s admissions journey will be slightly different, but the summary below details the key steps for those joining Oundle at 11+.

Visit Oundle

Eighteen months to two years prior to entry (Year 5)

We welcome families to visit Oundle in person by attending an Open Day or personal visit. You will get to meet the Registrar and other key members of staff, explore the School and spend time with pupils.

Families requiring financial assistance are encouraged to enquire about our means-tested bursaries as early in the process as possible.

Registration

One to two years prior to entry (Year 5 – 6)

By registering you are guaranteed consideration of a place at Oundle and we will keep you up-to-date with the latest information and news from Oundle. A non-refundable administration fee of £250 is required at this stage.

For those applying outside of the UK, it would be advantageous for all applicants from overseas to provide us with a UKiset report prior to registration. UKiset is an adaptive cognitive test measuring underlying ability and language proficiency.

Assessments and Scholarships

January of Year 6

Candidates sitting the 11+ Entrance Examination take papers in Mathematics, English, Science and a Cognitive Ability Test in the January prior to entry. Pupils sitting the papers at Oundle have an interview, with prospective boarders staying overnight. The strongest performing candidates are invited to sit the Academic Scholarship paper the following day. Music Scholarships are also awarded at this stage with selection made on the basis of an audition and interview.

All overseas applicants follow the same entrance procedure and sit the same entrance papers as UK candidates. We ask all candidates not taking examinations at Oundle School to sit them at a British Council Office.

Past papers for 11+ entrance and scholarship examinations can be found here.

Offer & Acceptance of Place

January of Year 6

Offers are made, following assessments, in late January.  On acceptance of a place an acceptance fee and deposit are payable.
