Scholarships are highly prized and awarded in recognition of proven talent or exceptional potential at 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry.

“What we are looking for in a Scholar is a love of their discipline and a sense of both humility and ambition."

Sarah Kerr-Dineen, Head Quote mark

We offer a range of Entrance Scholarships at 13+ and 16+, as well as a Entrance Exhibition at 11+. All scholarships are won in open competition and are awarded solely on merit. They are highly prized, recognising not just honed skills and talents but also endeavour and potential. We look to our Scholars, who should join Oundle with great pride in their status, to provide intellectual and cultural leadership to their peers and in return, we offer dedicated programmes of opportunity and support to help them make the most of their talents.

No fee remission is attached to a Scholarship as we believe its integrity lies in its honorary capacity. All scholarships can, however, be underpinned by bursary assistance if the financial circumstances of an individual family necessitate it. All awards are conditional upon success in the entrance examinations and the tenure of any award depends upon continued satisfactory progress once in School.

11+ Entrance Exhibitions

At 11+, we offer Entrance Exhibitions in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and effort in the entrance assessments. These awards celebrate potential and commitment, rather than creating early pressure to specialise or perform.

We recognise that children develop at different rates and that the early years of senior school are often when confidence grows and abilities deepen. Rather than assessing and awarding Scholarships at this early stage, our focus is on giving pupils the space and support to flourish.

From 13+ onwards, there are Scholarships opportunities  across a wide range of disciplines. These awards come with a tailored development pathway to help pupils pursue their interests and build on their strengths as they mature.

This approach reflects our belief in nurturing long-term potential rather than judging too soon. It allows pupils to arrive at Oundle ready to explore, grow and discover where their passions and talents lie.

13+ Scholarships

Our 13+ Scholarships reward distinctive ability or special talent in Academic, Art, Drama, Design Engineering and Technology (DET), Music and Sport. We also offer an Oundle Scholarship to reward talented candidates who have a genuine interest and ability in two or more of our Scholarship disciplines.

For those pupils applying to Oundle through the Common Entrance (CE) route, we encourage you to liaise with your child’s current school as formal applications are made via the Head of our Feeder Schools. We are, of course, always happy to advise and give information where appropriate.

For those pupils applying via the Oundle Entrance route, please contact Admissions for further information and to discuss your application.

All short listed candidates will be asked to indicate whether they wish to apply for a 16+ Scholarship when they are contacted in the September prior to the entry exams in November of Year 11.

Internal Scholarship Awards and Progression

We know that children develop at different rates, and that not all will have reached the required levels of attainment to be made an award when they join the School. Each of the awarding departments therefore keeps a careful eye on all the pupils as they move through the School, identifying individuals who are moving rapidly through the ranks and are deserving of consideration for promotion to Scholarship.  Decisions for pupils in the Third Form and above are made in the Summer Term of each year, when a few pupils will be formally promoted.  In the case of the Second Form, this process is part of the Third Form entrance Scholarship assessments that take place during the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.
