We are delighted that Schola Cantorum, our auditioned Chamber Choir at Oundle have been selected to perform in the Grand Final of the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition.

They are one of just 14 Senior School Choirs in the UK to reach the Final, which will be held at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, one of the world’s finest concert halls, on Tuesday 3 March 2026.

The choir secured their place by submitting two audition pieces: Wild Mountain Thyme, the traditional Scottish/Irish folk song in a choral arrangement by Jacob Ewens, and Angelus ad virginem, arranged by Andrew Carter. Director of Music at Oundle, Richard Dawson said:

“This is a hugely exciting achievement for Schola Cantorum. The choir has worked incredibly hard since September, preparing for the Advent Carol Service and our Christmas concerts and services alongside the competition. To be able to sing at Symphony Hall is a fantastic opportunity, and a fitting reward for all their hard work and dedication.”

The Barnado’s National Choir Competition is the biggest community and school choir competition in the UK. Finalists will perform before a live audience and a judging panel who will be looking for both musical excellence and creative performance. We wish them all the very best of luck!
