Performance in the original German.

Twenty-four pupils present Schubert’s Winter Journey (D911). Settings of poems by Wilhelm Müller, they tell the story of a lonely traveller who ventures out into the snow on a journey to rid himself of his lost love. The songs take the audience on a journey that conjures up a visual image of a cold and dark landscape.

Pupils from the Art department will be accompanying the piece with film capturing the moods and landscapes within the songs.

We are honoured to welcome Yulia Chaplina to work with the singers on this project. Since winning the First Prize and the Gold Medal in the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians, she has performed regularly as a soloist in many of the world’s finest venues, including the Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre in London, Berlin’s Philharmonie, the Grand Halls of the Moscow Conservatoire, the St Petersburg Philharmonia, and Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo.
