Over the Easter break, Isabel delivered a remarkable presentation at Articulation, a national competition held at the National Gallery. Isabel was one of 10 finalists selected from internal school heats, regional heats and regional finals. The competition invited pupils to present a 10-minute talk on a chosen work of art, architecture, or artefact, with adjudicators assessing each speaker on content, structure, delivery, and originality. Isabel’s presentation stood out among a strong field, earning praise for her thoughtful approach and the clarity with which she communicated complex ideas.
This year’s adjudicators, novelist Ali Smith and director of the National Gallery Gabriele Finaldi, commended all finalists for their courage and insight, noting how their talks demonstrated art’s ability to connect people across time and experience. Isabel’s analysis of the work of Otto Dix was singled out for particular acclaim. Judges praised her “thoughtful and compelling close analysis,” as well as her ability to guide the audience through complex ideas with care and insight. Ali Smith described the presentation as “a beauty,” highlighting Isabel’s ability to take a long view and bring the audience with her.
Following the event, Isabel has been invited to have her work considered for inclusion in a forthcoming booklet of selected Articulate presentations and pupil essays. She has also been encouraged to take advantage of opportunities available to Articulate alumni, including potential work experience and participation in future events at the National Gallery.
