Last Term pupils in the First and Second Forms were introduced to the Explorer’s Award in Geography. Over the ten weeks there were ten enrichment activities to complete to broaden and develop their geographical understanding of Africa (First Form) and Asia (Second Form). Each activity comprised a range of questions and skills to complete. After reviewing the submitted work, nine Gold, four Silver and three Bronze Explorer Awards were presented to pupils.
The Explorer’s Award is an extension of the Geography Passport to Learning, a two year journey which pupils begin in the First Form. At the end of each topic pupils complete a RAG rating (red, amber, green) on key learning objectives for each topic, and answer summary questions that serve as an overview of the topic. This then provides a valuable revision resource before end-of-unit tests. The passport is appropriately ‘certified’ with stamps that match the borders of each continent that have been covered. In the First Form pupils explore the Arctic and Antarctica, Africa and in the Second Form, Asia, the Americas and the United Kingdom are covered.
