Building upon a long-term partnership between the two string departments, Oundle School enjoys a formal partnership with the Royal College of Music.
The aim of the partnership is to enable talented musicians from Oundle to work with RCM professors and students for the mutual benefit of both institutions. In addition to the very exciting programme of joint events, it is possible for the most able and ambitious pupils to receive long term guidance and preparation with members of the faculties at RCM in conjunction with the School programme for conservatoire entry.
In past years the RCM String Band and string ensembles at Oundle have combined to give performances with more than 120 players of Sibelius Andante Festivo, Vaughan Williams Tallis Fantasia and Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings. In addition to playing alongside the Oundle School string players, the String Band have introduced our musicians to exciting works, including Shostakovich Chamber Symphony, MacMillan Piano Concerto and Britten Variations on a theme by Frank Bridge.
The side-by-side element of the partnership has recently been enlarged to include Oundle School Jazz Orchestra playing alongside the RCM Big Band in performance. The partnership opens up many opportunities for all musicians, and continued work with College professors in masterclasses and workshops enhances a programme that is already very exciting.
