Over the course of the Half Term, the school athletics squad has been working with Speedworks to develop the physical and technical competencies of the pupils.
On Thursday, a group of pupils had the opportunity to work with Speedworks coach Joel Fearon, a sprinter and bobsledder, who was a Bronze medallist in the GB Bobsleigh at Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. His personal best of 9.96 seconds for the 100m places him fifth in the UK all-time records. Joel led the pupils in a challenging sprint and relays session, which should put them in a good position to perform well at Sports Day. It was a superb afternoon, with some of the pupils even getting to try an Olympic medal for size.
Led by Jonas Dodoo, Speedworks has developed a number of high-level coaches, working with many elite performers across a range of sports, but with a primary focus on Track and Field. Jonas currently has an elite group of sprinters based at the National Institute at Loughborough University, and he is also currently a consultant at Premiership and Championship Football and Rugby clubs, working with their staff and first team players.
