Oundle’s achievement of the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Green accreditation earlier this academic year recognises our long term, integrated approach to sustainability. One of the most visible aspects of this work is the dedication of over 10% of the School’s land to enhancing biodiversity through the creation of diverse habitats. By gently restoring native species and revitalising natural spaces across our site, we are supporting the recovery of local ecosystems and creating space for wildlife to thrive. These projects also provide pupils with meaningful opportunities to step beyond the classroom and engage in hands-on environmental work.
Whether it’s planting wildflowers, surveying biodiversity or working with local conservation groups, pupils learn not just about the environment but how to act and make a difference. Sustainability becomes something real and immediate as well as something they take ownership of.
Beyond rewilding, the School is working hard to reduce its environmental impact in other ways. From improving energy efficiency across our buildings to exploring renewable energy options and tackling waste, we’re making practical changes that reflect our long-term goals.
Much of this work is shaped and supported by our pupils. Our Green Team and Environmental Ambassadors generously dedicate their time to supporting these important causes, alongside other pupil-led initiatives that are at the heart of driving positive change. They play a key role in raising awareness, encouraging thoughtful habits and helping to nurture a culture where sustainability becomes a natural part of daily life.
Oundle’s work in this area was recently featured in a detailed case study by iiE, recognising the depth and breadth of our environmental efforts.
