On Saturday, Oundle took four debate teams to the regional round of the Cambridge Schools’ Debating Competition at the Cambridge Union, the oldest speaking Union in the world.

In the British Parliamentary format, debaters were given their motion and position in the debate 15 minutes before the round began. In one round, pupils debated the motion “This House, as a highly educated progressive activist in a developing democracy, would choose to work for the corrupt government”.

All pupils performed well in some challenging debates, and out of 36 teams, Oundle just missed out on a place in the finals. Livy (K) and Will (L) were awarded first and second top speaker marks from among the 72 competitors.
