Déjà vu all over again…. For the third year in a row the Rovers Legends travelled to Bradfield and for the third year the result remained the same – a good show but the wrong result. We knew we were a couple of bowlers short but our makeshift attack was exposed beyond our expectations as Bradfield ran up 291-3 in 35 overs without taking too many chances. There weren’t too many highlights but Alastair Macleod-Smith rolled back the years with his bowling after a clearly-beneficial trip to the physio since the Repton game. Richard Sharp was also a revelation behind the stumps, saving at least another 20 runs.

The Rovers reply was impressive without ever quite getting on top of the run rate. JJ Harris top scored with a very effective use of his bottom hand, Rory Jenkins had one of his more productive days and Julian “Dorian Gray” McAlpine unfurled his repertoire of 360 degree shots, but all to no avail. We finished on 225-9 after our 35 which was no disgrace. As the sun set in the convivial post-match debrief the biggest cheer of the day went to Rory Marr for taking a 600 mile round trip from Newcastle to play – a true Rovers Legend.
