The Oundle community came together to celebrate the official opening of the Tom Brass Rowing Studio, a transformative new training facility that will support Oundle rowers for generations to come.
The occasion marked the culmination of a project made possible through the generosity and vision of Tom Brass (D 66), whose legacy gift has created a lasting home for rowing training at the School. The new studio provides pupils with a dedicated space to develop strength, technique and fitness throughout the year, enhancing Oundle’s already proud rowing tradition.
The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Brass family, Old Oundelians, current pupils, parents, staff and supporters of Oundle Rowing, all coming together to celebrate an important milestone in the School’s sporting history.
The event also featured the naming of Oundle’s newest racing shell after Olympic gold medallist and World Champion James Robson (Ldr 12). In a traditional champagne christening ceremony, James officially named the boat before spending time with pupils and guests, reflecting on his own journey from Oundle to the very highest level of international rowing.
The afternoon was a celebration not only of Oundle’s rowing success, but also of the power of philanthropy and community. The Tom Brass Rowing Studio stands as a lasting testament to the impact that generosity can have on future generations, ensuring that young rowers have access to outstanding facilities and opportunities to pursue excellence.
The School extends its sincere thanks to the Brass family for their continued support, to James Robson for joining the celebrations, and to everyone who attended and helped make the occasion such a memorable one.
As Oundle looks ahead to the next chapter in its rowing story, the Tom Brass Rowing Studio will serve as a daily reminder of the enduring connection between the School, its alumni and the transformative power of giving.
