After running successfully in the early 1980s the OO Multi-Sports Weekend was revived in 1995 and has grown in both size and stature every year since.
Held early in March, the event’s only competitive element is seeking to retain or win back the trophy from the School! The weekend seeks to get as many OOs as possible competing against the School across both days in a variety of sports including rowing, fives, squash, water polo, swimming relay, cross country. The weekend also ensures there can be a rousing get together in The Ship on Saturday night to discuss tactics! Sunday’s events are planned for the morning so that we can meet socially at lunch with the all-important presentation of the trophy.
The 2021 Sports Weekend was run virtually for the first time in its history, meaning it was expanded to include other disciplines including art and poetry. Participation on both sides was strong and following vigorous competition it was agreed to shake hands on an overall draw! Thus the Cup will be shared and the Mike Spragg trophy engraved “Draw: Covid”; acting as a reminder of circumstances in years to come.
If you would like to get involved in next year’s competition then please get in touch with the appropriate Club secretary or email Al Gordon (Sports Committee Chairman) or the OO Club Secretary for details.
