Songs are one of the best mediums for composers wishing to depict powerful emotions with the fusing of text and music; songs are also a regular ‘brief’ on the composition option list of GCSE and A Level.
Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter’s Journey) offers one of the most inspiring introductions to song-writing, with each one of the 24 songs depicting fated love as our protagonist focuses on a reference point of ‘once sweet love’ that twists to become the focus of regret, pain and loss. Staff and pupils combine to perform and discuss composition, and writing for voice.
In response to COVID-19, we have reluctantly closed our concerts to everyone outside of the Oundle School community. However, we have given careful thought as to the best line-up of musical offerings that could easily be recorded and presented online. Please try to follow us and keep in touch. We will place links for online events on these pages. We hope to see you back in our audience just as soon as circumstances allow.
