Built first and foremost for our pupils, the Sports Centre gives us an opportunity to open up to the public on a carefully programmed basis, with the resulting provision of revenue helping offset the cost of running such a facility for pupils.
Public access in term time is programmed around the sporting requirements of both Oundle and Laxton Junior School, with both Schools allocated exclusive access to the Sports Centre at key times. At other times, there will be shared use of the facilities and outside of term time, a full commercial programme will maximise the year round potential of the Sports Centre.
The Sports Centre itself will accommodate a new fifty metre swimming pool, an eight court hall offering adaptable playing space for a range of sports, as well as the opportunity for whole School assemblies through use of retractable bleacher seating, a separate fitness suite with seventy stations, a dedicated dance studio, three further multipurpose studios and a café. The benefits to our pupils is impressive; the specialist facility for dance will see us able to develop a bespoke and stimulating programme which can link with drama and music, whilst the double sports hall facility with The Acre will help transform our curriculum PE offering and allow a greater breadth of options, including basketball, volleyball, futsal and handball to name just a few.
The Sports Centre, located just beyond the The Acre with a regard over to the JM Mills Cricket Pavilion and all sports pitches, will be the access gateway to all School sports, with ample car parking facilities, including designated disabled and parent and child spaces.Visit the Sports Centre website
The existing Sports Centre, renamed The Acre, has been retained through the Sports MasterPlan for School use, thus providing us with maximum flexibility for pupil sporting provision. Within The Acre is a fully equipped and comprehensive performance gym, a rehabilitation and spinning studio, a sports hall including indoor cricket nets, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, netball and indoor hockey provision, an indoor climbing wall, five squash courts, four Rugby fives courts and two PE teaching classrooms.
