Twenty-three Sixth Form pupils participated in this year’s British Biology Olympiad, and the Biology department were proud to receive outstanding results, with seventeen percent of Oundle’s candidates gaining Gold awards.

The British Biology Olympiad consists of two 45-minute multiple choice papers taken online under staff supervised exam conditions. Pupils were presented with unfamiliar topics and ideas, and were challenged to employ their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principles.

Worldwide, 8476 pupils from 622 schools took part, and only five percent of all entrants received Gold awards.

Four Oundle pupils earned the distinction of a Gold award: Georgia Poole (L), John Robertson (S), Darren Shum (Sc), Robert Tombs (Sc). A further three pupils were awarded Silver; two pupils were awarded Bronze; and four were Highly Commended.
