UCAS applications are made in the Michaelmas Term of the Upper Sixth, either for entry immediately after School or for deferred entry after a gap year.

Pupils are encouraged to seek detailed advice from the Careers department before making university applications through the UCAS system. The School runs a Higher Education Conference, an Oxbridge Conference and a Careers Conference, all of which take place in the Lower Sixth and which provide extensive guidance and information about university applications and career choices.

Oxbridge

The Master-in-Charge of Oxbridge is responsible for offering advice to all candidates on topics such as choosing a degree course and a college, completing the application forms and interview technique.

The School organises an Oxbridge Conference, which is attended by an admissions tutor from either Oxford or Cambridge, as well as OO undergraduates from both universities.

Pupils attend regular meetings with the relevant departmental Oxbridge representative, which include discussion about extra reading or research, as well as advice on choosing colleges, interview technique and practice for any pre-tests that may be necessary.

American Universities

As one of the leading co-educational schools in Great Britain, it is no surprise that Oundelians are looking across the world for the best higher education institutions. While most pupils matriculate to outstanding universities in the UK, increasing numbers of pupils (and parents) are looking across the Atlantic for higher education for a more global approach to their education. Oundle offers comprehensive preparation for admissions to university in the United States, and utilises its considerable resources to offer personalised advice for pupils and parents. Individual guidance and planning is provided by a senior member of the Careers Department, and the school is now partnered with A-List Education, who are providing Common Application, Essay, SAT/ACT and general application advice, including selecting appropriate schools which will provide a “best fit” for our pupils.

In addition, the school nominates pupils annually for three highly competitive scholarship competitions in the US: Jefferson Scholarship at the University of Virginia, Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina and the Robertson Scholarship at Duke University.
