Lance Corporal Thomas Spencer was a Laxton School boy. He was the third son of Philip and Charlotte Spencer of Elton, born in the village on 26th February 1885. He attended Laxton School for just three terms, from May 1899 until April 1900.
When the War came, he joined the Northants regiment and was killed, aged 31, on the first day of the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) on 31st July 1917. He is buried in Perth Cemetery (China Wall), near the village of Zillebeke, a few miles east of Ypres, close to where he fell.
