John Harvey Jacobs 11 October 1918

John Harvey Jacobs came from Cricklewood and was in New House from 1907 to 1909. In April 1909, he won the Open High Jump on Sports Day, with a height of 4 feet 9 inches. He represented New House in fives and gymnastics, though, truth be told, they achieved little in either competition. In the gym, one of his New House team-mates was Geoffrey Donaldson, who would be killed in July 1916.

John Jacobs was a Captain in the Royal Fusiliers when he was killed on 11th October 1918. His unit attacked and took the village of St Aubert, nine miles east of Cambrai but Jacobs was killed, aged 26 and buried in the cemetery there.

He was awarded the Military Cross for valour.
