Charles Vipan 17 October 1917

Charles Vipan was 26 when he was killed. He was born in Ailsworth, near Peterborough and left Laxton School at the age of 17 in 1908.

He enlisted in Peterborough, joining the Northamptonshire Regiment, before switching to the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was killed six miles south of Ypres not far from Messines Ridge on 17th October 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele.

He is buried in Prowse Point Military Cemetery, close to where he fell and is remembered on the war memorial in his home village of Barnack.
