The Art department is centrally located in the Cloisters and includes four large, light and well-equipped studios.
The emphasis of the teaching is on Fine Art: the disciplines covered are drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fabric painting, batik and digital photography. Art History and Art Appreciation are taught at all levels but, more particularly, in the Sixth Form as part of the A level. Art History is also offered as a two year Pre-U course.
Annual visits to European and American cultural centres are popular, as are trips to London galleries.
The School has its own art gallery, The Yarrow Gallery, one of the most highly regarded exhibition spaces in the region. Exhibitions are held throughout the year of work by professional artists, and at the end of the School year, the annual A level show is a highlight in the calendar.
