Adventure Award Descriptions

THE DUDGEON VENTURE

This is funded in memory of Patrick Dudgeon (St. A 1934-38), who was captured by the Germans in the Second World War, and described by the German who interviewed him as ‘the bravest man he had ever met’. He was executed in 1943. This is the oldest and most prestigous award, and is specifically for activities of a physically demanding and adventurous nature.

THE ANGUS AWARD

This award is funded in memory of Dr W B G Angus (Sc.1903) and is for activities of the Dudgeon type, aimed at the younger (Fifth Form) pupil.

THE RICHARD HUTCHINSON AWARD for travel in France.

This award is funded in memory of Richard Hutchinson (Ldr.1981-83).

THE JOHN GRAHAM TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP

for travel and photography. This award is funded in memory of R J P Graham (St.A. 1970-74).

THE GROCERS’ AWARD

This award is funded by the school and encompasses activities which may be of a more academic nature than the Dudgeon or Angus Awards.

KITTS TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP

This award is funded by Kitts Travel Agents of Oundle, and is for trips to any foreign country.

THE ROGER WHITBY ESSAY PRIZE

This prize is awarded annually in memory of R H Whitby (Grafton 1955-60), who was drowned whilst diving off Corsica in 1963, and is for the best written account of any enterprising holiday activity undertaken during the current year.
