Regatta Details

The club greatly appreciate your support at these big events and it would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible.

Oundle School Boat Club (OSBC) was founded in 1886 and has continued the traditions of a quintessential public-school sport right up to the present day. In the past, Oundle has succeeded in developing athletes from raw beginners into prominent National and International Champions.

Crews: The rowing programme is continuing to develop under the direction of Mr Maitre. The Club aspires to produce competitive racing crews from all pupils and year groups. At the Junior level, we try to produce at least two racing crews from both the boys and the girls each year. We are striving to ensure that all members of the club represent the school at open events. This acts as a foundation for continued development as the pupils progress through the School. The sport is an option for a minimum of two Quarters, although the Michaelmas and Christmas Quarters are considered to be one. Everyone who rows is expected to participate during the Trinity Quarter as this is the regatta season.

Fixtures: The Club has regular fixtures, including the Schools' Head of the River in London (March), the National Schools' Regatta in Nottingham (May) and Henley Royal Regatta (July). The majority of the crews race on a more regional level, including events in Cambridge, Peterborough, Bedford and St Neots amongst others.

Achievements: Since 2002, the Boat Club has become more and more successful. A Girls’ double scull reached the final of Henley Women’s Regatta and won bronze medals at the National Championships (2003). The boys 1st VIII qualified for Henley Royal Regatta (2004). We won two National Schools’ Medals (bronze WJ15 1x, 2004; silver MJ16 4+, 2005). Nine athletes represented the Eastern Region at the Junior Inter regional Championships winning medals of all colours (silver WJ15 1x, bronze MJ16 4x, 2004; GOLD WJ16 2-, bronze MJ16 4+, 2005). Richard Aked (Captain of Boats, 2005-06) was selected for the GB VIII at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, which won GOLD twice (2005). With the majority of last year’s successes being achieved by pupils who are still at the school, the potential for further development is evident.

Coaches: OSBC is staffed by Mr Maitre and Mr Cowley full time, with the support of Mr Harrison, the full time boatman. Mr Cowley is an ex-international sculler and veteran of some 500 events. They are ably supported by members of the academic staff including Mr Higgins. The Club also benefits from the services of two part-time professional coaches and volunteers from the school community.
