Cross country
Cross-Country has been well-established for many years at Oundle. In total, we always have well over 50 boys and girls who take part in games sessions, supervised by half a dozen dedicated members of staff. The strength in numbers has enabled us to provide two representative girls teams and two boys teams for the majority of our matches, where large numbers are permitted. Training includes challenging hill courses, flat or track work, a longer run on Thursday, and fixtures or a local run for the non-squad runners on Saturday.
Fixtures: Oundle forms part of the competitive East Midlands league, which includes the main independent schools of the area (Welbeck, Nottingham High, Oakham, Uppingham, Stamford, Wellingborough, Worksop, Bromsgrove) and provides weekly fixtures. We also compete further afield in the South East Schools competition at Harrow, the Knole Run at Sevenoaks and MANISCCC (the Midlands and Northern Independent Schools Cross Country Championship), in addition to hosting an Invitation Relays event during the OO weekend. The Cross Country Club also organises two major all-school events: the Gale Mile and the School Cross Country.Achievements: In 2006, Oundle may well have made history, with runners bringing back medals in every category, a first for the School, and perhaps a first for any School at MANISCCC. The boys' teams at both Colts and Senior level finished as bronze medallists, and the girls' team went one better to take home the silver.
2010 was an exceptional year as well, with our girls team winning the East Midlands League, the South East School competition in Harrow and MANISCCC in Sedbergh.
2011 saw both girls and boys teams place in the top three in the overall League results.
Every year a group of talented runners also compete individually and represent Oundle School and their County, successfully qualifying through District, County, Regional and National level cross-country events.
