Settlement Trust: New awards for 2009/10
The Old Oundelian Club was founded in 1883 and now has over 9000 members. Membership is open to all day and boarding boys and girls when they leave the School.
The OO subscription is now included in the School Fees, and is currently charged at the rate of £32.56 per term over 15 terms (i.e. £488.40). A number of Members also make a regular voluntary contribution under the gift aid scheme: this has resulted in the Club now being in the position to grant valuable confidential bursaries, in order to assist pupils with Old Oundelian parents to remain at the School in times of difficulty.
All Members receive free and for life an annual copy of the Old Oundelian magazine, which includes Members' news and full details of forthcoming OO activities for that year as well as an overview of School events. New members receive a Club tie or a silver charm. Through the Club's secretary, OOs may also seek advice from the School's staff on further education and career issues.
The Club is organised on an area basis with Corresponding members in the UK and overseas who keep in touch with OOs in their region and give any help that they can, particularly to those visiting overseas. Many areas hold social events, in addition to a dinner held in the autumn in London.
A recent new initiative is the compilation of a House/Year Representative network for every year of leaving from 1945 to the present day. Volunteer representatives will assist with the organisation/gathering of fellow Old Oundelian contemporaries for House/Year reunions, and other events.
Annual Reunions are held in Oundle for OOs of a specific period, normally spanning two leaving years. This gives all OOs the opportunity to visit the School on a frequent basis. Further information may be found on the website.
There are a number of Sporting Club activities, which include:
• The Oundle Rovers, with their annual cricket week at Oundle
• The OO Golfing Society
• The OO Rugby Club
• Clubs for Tennis, Netball, Rowing, Hockey, Squash, Fives, Shooting,
Soccer, Cross-country, Sailing and Badminton.
In addition to other fixtures most of these Clubs participate in an annual
match against the School at the multi-sports weekend during the Easter Quarter.
The running of the Club is done by its full-time Secretary whose office is located in the Oundle Society office. The general direction of its affairs is in the hands of a Committee supported by a Finance and Policy Committee, which meets three times a year at Oundle with the original objectives of the Club very much in mind: namely ‘to foster union and good fellowship among Old Oundelians, to promote OO matches and reunions, and to further the interests and prosperity of the School’.
When visiting the School, you are most welcome to visit the Old Oundelian
Club offices which are in The Stables adjoining Cobthorne, The Headmaster’s
house in West Street. The telephone number is 01832 273216 and the e-mail
address is ooclub@oundleschool.org.uk
