The Thommy Purbrook General Scholarship

Thommy Purbrook's career at Oundle was tragically cut short in December 2008 when she died four days before Christmas of a meningococcal infection contracted while on a School trip to St Petersburg. Her time at Oundle was marked by her enthusiasm, energy and determination. Thommy made a considerable contribution to the life of the School.

She had the ability to inspire and encourage people, showed great concern for her friends and fellow pupils, and took full advantage of the many opportunities that Oundle offers. Thommy's parents, therefore, would like to establish a charitable fund in order to finance a Thommy Purbrook General Scholarship at Oundle, which they and we believe to be the most fitting memorial to Thommy.

We would like the Scholarship to be awarded to a child who, like Thommy, would take full advantage of the academic and extra-curricular opportunities that Oundle can offer. It is our intention to make such an Oundle education accessible to someone from a family that might not otherwise be able to afford the fees, and the scholarship award would be further supported by associated bursary funding as and when necessary.

Our aim is to raise £500,000 and we hope that you will feel able to support this appeal. We appreciate that the raising of the fund represents a significant challenge. We hope, however, that together through donations big or small we may be able to fulfil Thommy’s own promise by giving another child the opportunities that Thommy seized with such joy.

If you would like to contribute the simplest way is to complete and return the relevant form (above) for a single donation with your cheque, or for a regular donation by completing and returning the standing order section. Gift Aid can be claimed for both methods of giving. Please send to Richard Owen, The Oundle Society, The Stables, Cobthorne, West Street, Oundle, Peterborough, PE8 4EF, to whom any queries should be addressed.

Alternatively, you may wish to donate online via our Justgiving site. (Please note that there is a cost involved to the Society when donations are made online.)
