PSHE Programme

First and Second Forms

The Junior PSHE programme is delivered through their fortnightly Form Period, where they also look at current affairs and cultural themes. The PSHE department provides specially designed materials to stimulate useful consideration and debate of the following themes:

First Form

• Practical School Issues and Behaviour
• Responsible Use of ICT
• Self Esteem and Relationships
• Healthy Body and Mind

Second Form

• Responsibility and Leadership
• Online Safety
• Puberty, Sex and Relationships
• Community Relationships
• Revision Skills

Third Form

Pupils meet with Hsms and Tutors on a weekly basis. Instructive materials are provided as stimulus for discussion on a wide variety of topics. Occasionally sessions take the form of lectures from professional speakers. Themes include:

• Settling In and Making the most out of Oundle
• including Bullying, Time Management, Money Management, Learning Styles and Self Evaluation

• Rights and Responsibilities
• including the School Rules, Responsible use of the Internet, Children and the Law, Crime Prevention and Personal Safety, Community Awareness and Environmental Issues

• Health Education
• including Healthy Eating and Eating Disorders, Sex and Relationships Education, Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs Education

• Academic Choices and Study Support
• including GCSE Option Choices and Preparations for Exams

At the end of each Quarter there is an opportunity for self appraisal, which feeds into the process of measuring progress and goal setting for the next Quarter in Full Tutorials.

Fourth Form

Pupils receive a programme of lectures delivered by professional speakers and specifically designed sessions in House. The lectures are followed up in Houses in informal discussion groups led by Tutors. The primary focus of these sessions is to build on the Sex and Relationships and Drugs Education provided in the Third Form.

The Fourth Form also enjoy a lecture from a Memory Expert, which leads into a House-based workshop on revision skills. These take place in Houses during the Easter Quarter of the Fourth Form.

Fifth Form

Pupils receive a programme of lectures delivered by professional speakers and specifically designed sessions in House. The lectures are followed up in Houses in informal discussion groups led by Tutors. Discrimination and how to improve your memory are this year’s topics.

Each House group also receives an individual Revision Skills session led by a member of our Educational Support Department. These take place in Houses prior to the practice GCSE exams in the Christmas Quarter.

Lower Sixth

Pupils receive a programme of lectures delivered by professional speakers and specifically designed sessions in House. The lectures are followed up in Houses in informal discussion groups led by Tutors. Talks include a range of topics including HIV/AIDS, Sex and Relationships and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
