New House was converted to a girls' house in 1997, but was first bought by the School and used as a boarding House in 1907. Despite its name, the original House building is one of the oldest in the town but housed 'new boys' when they first arrived in Oundle in the early part of the last century. The name has remained along with its more ancient charms, although there has been much extension and modernisation over the years. With a large paddock which runs down to the Nene river, and views over adjacent pastures, New House holds a unique position in the town and has a character and warmth all of its own.
Appointed to New House in 2004, Marianne Layden was formerly Head of Games, and has taught Sports Science and PE at Oundle since 1997. She coaches teams in all the major sports and is involved in many school trips at home and abroad. She has two children and is a JP. Her interests include skiing, cycle touring and all forms of travel.
In addition to the Housemistress, the House has a team of seven tutors: Mr
Clive Humphreys (Assistant Housemaster and Head of the Patrick Centre), Mrs
Juliette Coles (English); Mr Martin Collier (Director of Studies and History);
Mlle Fonteneau (Modern Languages); Miss Pontifex (Art); Ms Westran (Classics);
Miss Eleanor Stones (Sports Fellow).
