Laundimer house Dr B McDowell

At the heart of Laundimer House is a fine Victorian Town House, once the residence of Robert (later Baron) Vernon Smith, who was MP for Northampstonshire in the mid-nineteenth century. The House on one side stands on North Street, a short walk to the town centre and most of the School's teaching areas, and on the other aspect faces its own enclosed garden and tennis court. Since its original acquisition by the School in 1916, Laundimer House has been altered and extended greatly; the last major refurbishment was completed in 2000. It now houses a maximum of 62 boys from 13 to 18 years of age.

Its Housemaster, Dr McDowell, was appointed to Oundle in 1988 to teach Biology, and became Housemaster in 1994. He now teaches Psychology, and is the School's Webmaster. He is married and has two children, and his wife is matron of the House. He is interested in travel, modern literature, and is a keen armchair fan of American Football and F1 racing.

In addition to the Housemaster the House has a team of six tutors: Mr Ambrose (Resident Deputy Housemaster and Religious Studies); Mr Forge (Modern Languages, School Archivist); Mr Hayward-Bradley (Mathematics, Shooting); Mr Meatyard (Physics); Mr Morrison (Classics); and Mr Tighe (Deputy Director of Music).
