Chapel Windows

Chapel Windows by Mark Angus

Scheme for North Aisle

Scheme for South Aisle

Scheme for West end and Porch

Seventeen new stained glass windows which were installed in June 2002 were blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Reverend George Carey, in a service on Monday 9 September 2002.

The windows have been designed and made by Mark Angus and represent the fruit of three years work in consultation with the School. The windows in the south aisle represent a 'natural theology' showing the creation story, the four seasons, the four elements and the apocalypse in glowing colours. To celebrate this theme a new setting of the Benedicite by Mr Philip Curran was performed.

The north aisle windows were completed in early 2004. The idea of order is also the underlying theme in the north aisle windows. Like the south side, they take their starting point in Genesis, which includes the story of Adam and Eve. However, the windows now tell us a human story, which locates us in the Creation with our strengths and weaknesses.

The four windows under the gallery at the west end of the Chapel representing four angels, and four Saints depicted in the West Porch, were the last to be installed.

The windows have been given to the Chapel by Mr Alex Patrick OO in memory of his brother Andrew who died at the age of thirteen.

In the linked pages detailing Angus' work, much of the text is the work of Dr Katharina Eisch-Angus.
