Sir Ian McKellen Masterclass

25 April 2008

The Cecil Lewis Room was packed on the evening of April 22nd with Theatre Studies and English A level pupils eager to see one of England's finest actors at work at the 2008 Sir Hugh Wontner Masterclass.

Sir Ian McKellen took four Oundle actors (George Blagden, Izzy Rogers, Alex Wilson and Callum Cheatle) through four Shakespeare sonnets as though they were rehearsing mini-plays addressed to particular people.

Sir Ian then went on to take a wealth of questions from the floor about both his acting and his role as an advocate for gay rights.  He concluded with an electrifying delivery of a speech from the play Thomas More to which Shakespeare is known to have contributed.
