On track
The middle of March saw the arrival of earthmoving plant on site to reconstruct the athletics track. Using the same site as the old cinder track, Oundle School is going to have a new metric six lane track with eight sprint lanes. The track itself will have a modern synthetic surface.
In addition to the track, there will be two new long jump/triple jump pits and run-ups, a redgra shot put fan and a synthetic high jump fan. The main infield area will have a macadam surface. This will create an excellent parade square for the CCF and also have the capacity to be used as a multi-sport space. The whole site will be enclosed by a perimeter fence.
It is anticipated that the work will be complete by the end of July 2006, and ready for use by the School when they return in September. Sadly, the nature of the work is so weather dependent that it was not possible to start sooner. However, the end product will give a state-of-the-art facility to be used as a training area for all sporting disciplines, and to raise the stakes for athletics at Oundle School.
