Lord Tebbit
As the Upper Sixth begin their serious preparation for the forthcoming A level examinations, their programme of stimulating talks under the General Studies umbrella came to an end on Friday 28th April with their final speaker. Lord Tebbit spoke in Oundle's Great Hall, and gave a very measured and interesting talk outlining what he felt it was to be a Conservative with a capital C.
In the questions that followed his talk he answered on a wide range of topics, including the European Union, the war in Iraq and the current state of the Conservative Party. For a man noted for frank and challenging views throughout his political career, the audience should not have been surpirsed to hear some provocative and perhaps surprising ideas. As Mr Mather, Master i/c General Studies said in his speech of thanks, it was very refreshing to see a man talk with such authority, without worrying about appearance, and with no reference to what focus groups thought was popular.
