Marathon success

Three sisters took to the road this year to compete in the Flora London Marathon on April 23rd. Becky Gaymer (K) and her two older sisters (and Old Oundelians) Anna and Katie ran the course and crossed the line together after 4 hours and 54 minutes.

Anna, currently working in London, and Katie, now studying at Cirencester, joined Becky on occasional weekends at School and at home as they gradually increased the distance of their training runs. Running on behalf of Children with Leukaemia, based at Great Ormond Street, they found that training was less painful with two companions to chat to as the miles went by.

Becky writes:

"Running the marathon was an experience we will never forget, and we thoroughly enjoyed the day in London. We were pleased with our time - all we wanted to do was start and finish together, and we managed that!

The spectators was tremendous, carrying us through to the end. In fact looking back, you wonder how you would have got through it without all the support, people shouting out encouragement, and giving you sweets to keep the energy levels up.

We were also lucky also to have such huge support from all our family and friends, many of whom came up to London and spread themselves along the course to cheer us along the way.

Between the three of us we have managed to raise nearly £4500 which way exceeds our original expectations. We are so very grateful for everyone’s generosity. Thank you."

Running independently, History teacher Dr Max von Habsburg also completed the course in a striking 3 hours and 20 minutes, raising money as he ran for the School's project in Mozambique.
