On parade

It is a happy coincidence in the School’s 450th year that the opportunity has arisen to participate in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show in London on Saturday November 11th. Run with military precision, the parade leaves the Mansion House at 11:02, following a two minutes silence.

After discussions with the Grocers’ Company, and the Pageantmaster, Dominic Reid (OO), it was agreed that the Combined Cadet Force’s recently resurrected sixty-strong Marching Band would form the centrepiece of our display.

With the School’s long history and strength in science and engineering, and its very significant links with motor cars and motor racing (through former pupils such as Raymond Mays, Amherst Villiers and Peter Morgan) it was thought appropriate to exhibit some of the vehicles designed and built by pupils in the Patrick Centre.

Painted in the School colours, six off-road buggies built (and driven) by pupils will lead our entry, and the three cars bringing up the rear include the only Morgan replica built outside the Morgan factory, constructed by Tim Earnshaw (OO) who will also be driving it on the day.

The head of the procession and the Lord Mayor will reach the Royal Courts of Justice at 11.30 and 12.40 respectively. The School will appear in the parade order as numbers 26 and 27. After a lunch break the procession leaves the Victoria Embankment at 13.00 and returns to the Mansion House between 13.25 and 14.30.

Full details of the day can be found on www.lordmayorsshow.org, and a printable map of the route (.pdf format) here.
