CCF bids farewell to Dr. Townsend
In the style of ceremonies traditionally reserved for commanding officers in the Infantry, Oundle School CCF laid on a very special farewell event for Dr. Townsend, as he relinquishes his role as the head of the School's CCF contingent. The sun was just going down behind the Great Hall at 1850 hours on Wednesday, 15th June, as NCOs and cadets lined the route between the Great Hall and the Staff Common Room on Milton Road .
Seated inside one of the School Land Rovers, Dr. Townsend was towed, using only the muscle power of the Senior NCOs and Officers of the CCF, out of the Great Hall drive, onto New Street and along Milton Road to the Common Room. Led by a trio of School Pipers, it was a suitably grand way to mark the end of one Headmagisterial responsibility. A dinner held that evening in his honour helped to refresh those many sets of aching limbs.
