Soup and charity
Lunch on Friday 11th November was a special event, in aid of Africalink's Community Aid project in Mozambique. All the School dining rooms provided everyone with a bowl of simple vegetable soup and plain bread rolls instead of the usual Friday fare. The money saved by doing this - some £737- will be donated to Africalink, and in addition the event raised the School's awareness of the project. Earlier in the week, attendees at midweek Chapel services on Tuesday and Thursday heard a presentation given by two pupils involved in this year's efforts, and also saw a video made during the earlier visit.
The project involves 24 Oundle pupils. Over the last year they have been raising money which will be sent out to Mozambique and used to establish a hydroponic community farm, which will be taken over by the neediest members of the local community. The aim of the project is to provide a sustainable source of income for them, and follows a similar and very successful project in July 2004. The pupils will be travelling to Mozambique in July next year to work with the local community in setting up the farm.
