2005 Examination Results

The public examination results at A and GCSE Levels are most satisfactory. Analyses of the A level results (pdf 21kb) and the GCSE results (pdf 21kb) can now be downloaded.

The pupils have again achieved outstanding results at A Level with 62% of all results being at A grade; an improvement of over 10% from 2004. Ninety pupils gained three A grades or better, and seven pupils: Elise N. Ganendra (N), Jonathan E. Harrap (B), Nozomi Itani (S), Keith K.T.Lai (S), Nicholas C.G. Lane (Ldr), Augustine W. Rapson (G) and Kenneth K.K. So (G) gained five or more A grades.

Twenty seven pupils have been awarded places at Oxford or Cambridge, up thirteen from last year. The vast majority of pupils have achieved places at the universities of their choices.

Those pupils entered for the Advanced Extension Award performed well. This examination, usually taken in the Upper Sixth and designed to stretch the ablest candidates with tasks that go beyond those demanded by A Levels, was taken by nine Lower Sixth pupils, seven of whom gained either Merit or Distinction. Harriet R. Middleditch (K) gained Distinctions in both the History and English papers which is a remarkable achievement by a Lower Sixth former.

The GCSE results were equally outstanding. For the first time ever, the proportion of A* grades was higher than A grades; 42.7% to 33.9%. Ninety pupils achieved five or more A* grades, twenty one pupils achieved nine or more A* grades and the following seven pupils achieved 10 A* grades: Arabella B.M. Brandon (D), Laura M.I. Cadzow (Sn), Alexandra C. Caldecott (N), Juliet Chaplin (K), Georgina B.F. Hall (L), Sophie C. Percival (K), Helen Wilson (N). The results of pupils taking Mathematics IGCSE and Dual Award Science were especially strong.

In terms of league table positions, Oundle's results place the school 34th in The Times and 47th in the The Daily Telegraph.

Martin Collier, Director of Studies, commented "The grades are a reflection of the dedication of teaching staff and the diligence and calibre of our pupils."
