Visiting Oundle

There are two ways of visiting us. Prospective day (Laxton) or boarding pupils and their parents may either come on an Individual Visit or attend one of our Open Days which are held on a Saturday three times each academic year; in January, May and September. Either can be arranged by contacting the Admissions Secretary admissions@oundleschool.org.uk for boarding pupils, or laxton@oundleschool.org.uk for day pupils. The date of the next open day is Saturday 18th September 2010

For day pupils:

On an Individual Visit you will meet the Head of Laxton and then be taken on a tour of the school by a current pupil.

Open Days take place three times a year on Saturday mornings in January, May and September. You will be welcomed with a cup of coffee in Laxton's Long Room. There will then be a short presentation on being a day pupil at Oundle School. This is followed by a tour of the whole School, and presentations on academic matters, pastoral care, sport, and extra-curricular opportunities. Parents and children are then offered a buffet lunch with an opportunity to meet several members of staff.

For boarding pupils:

Individual visits can be arranged on weekdays and on Saturday mornings during term time. We often book up our visits at least three weeks in advance. On a first visit the programme includes a tour of the school, visit to a Boarding House, a meeting with the Housemaster or Housemistress, and lunch with some pupils (this cannot be provided on Saturdays). In addition, prospective parents can meet the Headmaster if he is available. If relevant, meetings can also be arranged with the Undermaster (who deals with scholarships and bursaries), the Director of Music, and the Director of International Students. The Registrar normally sees all visitors at the beginning and end of each visit.

Invitations for Open Days can be obtained by contacting the Admissions Secretary. The programme is usually as follows:

9.45 a.m.: Visit to a boys' or girls' Boarding House (the Houses take it in turns to host Open Days). Members of the House will give a guided tour of their house.
10.30 a.m.: A tour of the School with pupils (usually in groups of two families accompanied by a boy and a girl).
12.00: A series of short presentations in the Great Hall covering topics such as tutoring, sports opportunities and academic matters.
12.45 p.m.: Buffet lunch with Housemasters and Housemistresses, and Heads of Department.
1.30 p.m.: Visit to another Boarding House, if required.
2.00 p.m.: The chance to watch school sporting fixtures being played that day.

The date of the next Open Day is Saturday 18th September 2010
