Latin
Head of Department: S.J. Chambers, MA (Cambridge)
Course Specification: OCR H039/H439
The Latin course in the Sixth Form continues to develop the skills used at GCSE: the understanding of the linguistic structures of Latin; a personal response to some Latin literature; an awareness of the ancient Roman cultural background to the language and literature studied; and knowledge of a prescribed vocabulary of Latin words. The teaching methods will vary according to the skill and content being studied. Preparation of the set text, acquisition of the vocabulary, appropriate revision of grammar and syntax, and unprepared reading of authors not set for examination will all play their part. There is no coursework in Latin.
