The New Cripps Library was opened in 1988. It houses approximately 22,000 books encompassing all subjects and includes a good selection of the latest fiction. Non-book resources include around one hundred DVDs. It has a computerised data-base and issue system, a small suite of networked computers, and a wireless hub for laptops.
The Library is staffed throughout the school day and is open to the whole school for research, information or borrowing for academic work and leisure reading. An integral Library Classroom provides space for whole class research, and a separate Reading Room gives access to daily newspapers and a selection of magazines. All new pupils are given an introduction to the use of the Library's facilities, supplemented by Information Literacy courses for each Third Form and First Form. The Library organises an annual week of author visits and workshops for First to Fourth Forms.
A secure, air-conditioned Muniment Room contains the School's collection of rare and valuable books. It also contains an increasingly wide-ranging School Archive in the form of photographs, newspaper cuttings and record books, the most notable being the earliest register of pupils of 1626.
In addition to the main Library, some academic departments have their own libraries of specialist books, and each House has its own library of novels, reference books and general non-fiction titles.
