Welcome from the Headmaster
Oundle is a special community of children, parents, teachers, Governors and
members of the town. It is remarkable for the diverse and interesting range
of activities and opportunities, and as one of England’s three largest
boarding schools, Oundle’s credentials are very strong. The School runs
seven days per week during Quarter time, and boarders naturally come from
further afield than many schools. Smaller schools cannot compete with the
rich diversity of involvement and opportunity; a school like Oundle quite
simply offers more. It provides the complete educational experience, while
life in the boarding house or in Laxton (for day pupils) ensures that a calm,
pastoral community thrives, and every individual is nurtured, supported and
valued.
Oundle is fortunate to be located in a beautiful market town in the heart
of England. The School’s origins lie in Sir William Laxton’s endowment
to the Worshipful Company of Grocers to re-establish a school in Oundle in
1556.
I hope you will enjoy browsing the website and finding out about life at Oundle.
Visitors are welcome to visit the School, ideally having made an appointment
beforehand. Guided tours, including contact or lunch with pupils, are provided
for prospective families. We take great pride in the School and are confident
that visitors will see much that makes Oundle special.
