Mr. Charles Bush
Charles Bush has been Headmaster of Oundle School since September 2005 when he succeeded Dr Ralph Townsend. Before Oundle he was Headmaster of Eastbourne College for twelve years, Housemaster and Head of Mathematics at Marlborough College, Head of Mathematics at Abingdon School and taught initially at Aylesbury Grammar School.
Oundle has warmly embraced Charles Bush’s energetic approach and his evident interest in all areas of School life as he strives to build on the excellent work of his predecessors to ensure Oundle maintains its reputation as one of the premier full boarding co-educational schools in the United Kingdom. The recent A level and GCSE results confirm this position.
Charles Bush enjoyed his secondary education at Melbourne Grammar School. After a foundation year at Melbourne University, he read mathematics at Trinity College, Oxford. He was one of a team of authors who revised the SMP (School Mathematics Project) A level text books in the eighties. He believes strongly in the importance of a rigorous academic grounding for life within the enrichment and challenge of a stimulating all-round culture. He takes a personal interest in the welfare of pupils to demonstrate that every child is equally important despite the size of the School. There are approximately 840 boarding pupils at present, aged 11 to 18, and 250 day pupils.
