The first archive reference to hockey is in the Laxtonian of 1892. ‘After the four weeks of so-called Football, a month has generally been assiduously devoted to loafing by a certain class of fellows who are always ready to jump at any opportunity afforded them for idleness.
The now popular game of Hockey has been introduced which has abolished this kind of indefinite employment. Next year we hope to play several foreign matches.’
Sixteen teams now play across the Michaelmas and Lent Terms; the junior Third Form boys play before Christmas, and the senior boys after the New Year.
