Athletics has a long history as a sport within the School, the first fixture being recorded in 1862. It is offered throughout the Summer Term and the School puts out teams from the Third Form through to the Sixth Form. There are often as many as seventy athletes competing in a fixture. The whole School inter-house athletics day is held in the Summer Term and involves pupils in the First to Sixth Forms.

The School has block fixtures against schools such as Oakham, Uppingham, Rugby, Bromsgrove and Repton. In addition, athletes compete in District, County and English schools' competitions, as well as in the National Prep Schools' competition.

Several athletes qualify to run for Northamptonshire County each year. Pupils who achieved success in other competitions include Cassie Vaz, who was National Prep Schools' U13 100m champion, Ruby Goodall was U13 National Prep Schools' 800m champion and regional record holder, and Emily Sherlock who was an English Schools' multi-events national finalist. Recent English Schools competitors include: pentathlon, Emily Sherlock; 1500m, Emily Kier and Sophie Reynolds; 800m, Holly Rice; long jump, Honor DeWinton; decathlon and shot, Doug Stark; shot, Jamie Sherlock; heptathlon, Honor DeWinton. Archie Parkinson holds a top 3 UK ranking in the U13 800m.

Pursuing a post-school career in athletics, Doug Stark (OO) recently won the 2015 BUCS Decathlon title at Bedford and also came second in the Decathlon at the EAP Home Countries International Match.
